It started out as a joke. Every year Lucy Bernardin would bring her toffee to holiday parties, where friends would hoard the tasty confection, urging her to sell it for profit. It got to the point where she'd have to bring not only a batch to serve guests but also bring a batch for the host.
After a few years of this Bernardin decided to put her talents to work and opened Victorian Treats in April of 1993 in a small 7-by-9 room in Andover, MA.
It is hard to believe the homemade toffees got their start in a tiny ATM room in Andover. As the business grew she moved to a larger location and added a retail store.

In 2000 Bernardin sold the toffee business to Mantash International, LLC as it complemented their assortment of nuts and chocolate bark, other handmade gourmet treats.
Mantash International of The Netherlands' American arm 40ParkLane, LLC run by Hans van Putten integrated the handmade toffees under the brand name Carolyn's Handmade.
The english toffee is Winner of the "Best of the Aisles" award at the 2003 New York Fancy Food Show.
